CubeSpawn

Cubic frames are built from 80/20 aluminum extrusion (and makerbeam, perhaps) at 1/2 meter, one meter, and possible larger or smaller sizes, Motion control is added, as appropriate for the desired funcion. A pallet mover is incorporated into the base of the cubes to move workpieces between cubes

This project can be built DIY by anyone without restriction, following instructions on the site, or at some point for those who do not have the tools or the inclination, kits will be sold through the site.

A standard electrical and data connector on each cube, plus mechanical latches or joining plates, allow the cubes to be connected to form a system.

As of this writing (11/15/2009) one half meter cube with a partially implemented 3 axis cnc function has been built, using electronics from the RepRap[1] project.

As additional cubes are designed with specific functions, multiple cubes can be connected in sequence to form "Lines" to build specific parts with multiple operations per part.

The connection between cubes is a 4 pole high current plug and socket for power and a 6 pin low voltage connector for the EtherCat industrial variant of ethernet.
